Sep 28 2016 - 15:25

Marking one year of his mandate as Director General of the Moldovan State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Mr. Octavian Apostol reported on the progress of the Agency during that time.

In 2015-2016, AGEPI registered a 7.2 percent increase in the number of trademark registrations.

Additionally, advancements were made in the field of Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin. Producers have been granted tax cuts and were ensured constant promotion in various international exhibitions and events.

Finally, amendments were made to the legislation on copyright and related rights, as well as to the regulations on obtaining patent protection abroad.

Looking forward, AGEPI will be oriented towards new priorities, including reducing the term of examination of trademark registration applications, identifying new ways of promoting Geographical Indications and widening this range of products, and strengthening the system for collective management of copyrights and related rights.
