Parallel Import in EEU - Update

Mar 30 2015 - 17:33

On March 12, 2015, during the roundtable organized by the US Chamber of Commerce in Moscow, Samat Aliev, deputy director of the Department of Business Development of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), stated that the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) favors the current regional principle of exhaustion of trademark rights with the possibility of applying the international principle to some types of goods, a list of which should be approved by the EEU.

It is believed that this change could affect public goods only. Aliev also mentioned that substituting the current principle of regional exhaustion of rights with the principle of international exhaustion of rights, suggested by the Russian competition regulator, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), has been removed from the EEU agenda.
