Ukraine to Allow Blocking of Copyright Infringing Websites without Court Decision

Feb 9 2014 - 21:10

Last month the Ukrainian PTO published on its website the draft law “On introducing amendments to certain regulatory acts regarding copyright and related right protection on the Internet”, expected to enter the parliamentary procedure soon.

According to the draft law, once a copyright or related rights owner sends an infringement claim to an Internet provider, the provider is to send a warning letter to the website owner and request immediate cessation of the infringement within one working day. The website owner has two working days to remove the infringing content. If the website owner does not respond to the warning letter within two working days, the Internet provider is to block the website.
