We are looking for an Intellectual Property Associate to join our Romanian office.

Responsibilities:

• Analyzing and advising clients on IP protection and enforcement strategies
• Representing clients before courts and enforcement authorities
• Handling enforcement and contentious matters
• Performing and supervising investigations
• Preparing and filing writs for the courts or local administrations
• Handling Customs matters: preparing and filing applications for Customs watching, reporting seizures and handling any further actions related to seizures;
• Analyzing and advising clients on best filing strategies
• Preparing IP rights applications; Handling prosecution files in the field of patents, trademarks and industrial designs
• Handling oppositions, cancellations, revocation actions, or any other contentious actions before local administrations
• Following registration procedure and ensuring registration of IP rights
• Verifying accuracy of work and reporting the same to clients
• Invoicing clients for work performed on their behalf
• Responding to questionnaires and producing legal opinions for various IP forums and organizations
• Attending and representing company in various conferences, seminars and other forums

Requirements:

• University degree from law school
• Capacity to represent IP right holders before the courts and enforcement authorities
• Excellent and professional command of the English language (both written and verbal)
• Minimum 5 years of experience as Associate or Junior Associate in the intellectual property field
• Detail oriented
• High sense of responsibility
• Ability to work independently and manage various projects
• Good time management skills and ability to prioritize and utilize resources as available
• Strong computer skills, not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

• Translating from Russian/Ukrainian to English and vice versa

• Preparing reports and responses to the office actions
• Ensuring application and renewal deadlines are met
• Communicating regularly with clients

Skills & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or biochemistry
• 3 years of working experience in a similar position
• Understanding of scientific and technological principles and processes
• Good command of English (both spoken and written)
• Ability to express complex technical ideas clearly and concisely
• An eye for details and an analytical mind
• Ability to manage time and work to deadlines
• Desirable to have the status of Patent Attorney/additional education in the field of intellectual property
• Desirable to have the knowledge of Russian patent legislation and the practice of the patent office in the field of chemistry.

Responsibilities:

• Creating and maintaining prosecution records in the database
• Preparing, filing and prosecuting trademark, patent, or other IPR applications, including handling office actions
• Handling recordal of changes before the local IPO
• Maintaining IP rights (renewals, annuities)
• Assisting in due diligence and in-use investigations
• Assisting with customs seizure reports and related matters
• Assisting in portfolio integration
• Translating texts from local language into English and vice versa
• Performing online searches of Patent and Trademark records, industry databases and other legal searches

Requirements:

• College or University degree (Pharmacy, Chemistry or Law degree will be an asset)

• Five years of experience as a paralegal and/or in the intellectual property field
