PETOŠEVIĆ Balkan Regional Office Director Mihajlo Zatezalo has been selected by Who’s Who Legal as one of 640 world’s leading trademark lawyers.

]]>The International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers 2012 will be published in June.

Who’s Who Legal is a widely recognized organization that identifies world’s leading legal professionals in 31 areas of business law. To get listed in one of the editions, one needs to be nominated by other legal professionals. After getting nominated, Who’s Who Legal conducts an independent research, which involves interviewing clients and the nominees.

Who’s Who Legal listed Mihajlo as a leading trademark lawyer last year as well.

Anamarija Stančić Petrović Lectures at Educational Seminar for Croatian Customs Officials

PETOŠEVIĆ Croatia Director Anamarija Stančić Petrović participated in the seminar organized by the Croatian customs authorities on March 28-29, in Zagreb, Croatia, aimed at educating the local customs and border police officials on how to recognize counterfeit products.

]]>Anamarija held a lecture on behalf of World Wrestling Entertainment on how to identify counterfeit products bearing their marks.

The representatives of Nike, Umbro, Lacoste, E.I. du Pont de Nemours, Zino Davidoff, Adidas, Nokia, UGG, Philip Morris, Crocs and Bvlgari also held presentations on the same topic.

PETOŠEVIĆ Bosnia Organizes Roundtable for Market Inspectors, Customs Officials

On December 9, 2011, PETOŠEVIĆ Bosnia, in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia, organized a roundtable on intellectual property protection for the local market inspectors and customs officials.

]]>Approximately 60 officials attended the roundtable in Banja Luka, northeastern Bosnia, during which they participated in lectures on IP-related legislative provisions and had a chance to observe samples of counterfeit products.

Representatives from Nike, Procter & Gamble and Japan Tobacco International, all PETOŠEVIĆ clients, prepared presentations on how to spot the differences between genuine and counterfeit products. Dragan Micunovic, who represented PETOŠEVIĆ Bosnia, held a presentation on trademark infringement.

Zoltan Kovari Contributes Chapter on IP to Medicinal Chemistry Book

Zoltan Kovari, the director of PETOŠEVIĆ office in Budapest, Hungary, has contributed a 20-page chapter on intellectual property to the 856-page medicinal chemistry handbook called Chemistry of Drug Research and Development.

]]>Zoltan’s chapter titled “Analyzing Competition, Patent and Professional Databases” primarily deals with the pharmaceutical patent system relevant to medicinal chemists.

The book was published by Akadémiai Kiadó in Hungarian in November 2011.

PETOŠEVIĆ Co-Organizes INTA Roundtable in Bulgaria

On October 28, 2011, the INTA Roundtable on The Enforcement of Council Regulation (EC) No 1383/2003 - An Important Tool for Brand Protection, took place in Sofia, Bulgaria.

]]>Iana Roueva of PETOŠEVIĆ and Elena Miller of Bojinov & Bojinov, both members of the INTA Anti-Counterfeiting Committee, organized the roundtable.

Over 40 people attended the roundtable, including the Bulgarian Customs Agency, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sofia City Court, the Supreme Court of Cassation and a number of Bulgarian law firms.

The roundtable covered various topics, such as the need for implementation of the simplified procedure in Bulgaria, the enforcement problems customs officials face, the consequences of Interpretative Ruling No.1/2008 of the Supreme Court of Cassation that legalized parallel import, and the strategies used by brand owners in the fight against counterfeiting.

The speakers were Kina Chuturkova, partner and attorney at law at Borislav Boyanov & Co, Gergana Cheshmedjieva, a representative of the Bulgarian Customs Agency, Judge Emilia Vassileva, member of the Supreme Court of Cassation, and Zoran Strsoglavec, the brand protection manager at Nike & Converse for the Balkan region.

Tanja Diklić Speaks to Fordham’s LLM Class about IP in Eastern Europe

Last week, the director of our New York Liaison Office, Tanja Diklić, visited students of Fordham Law School’s Master of Laws (LLM) International Intellectual Property Law, Practice and Enforcement class, taught by SVP Worldwide’s intellectual property counsel, Robert Doerfler.

]]>Tanja gave a general overview of the IP practice in Eastern Europe, including the discussion on new jurisdictions of Kosovo and Montenegro and the difficulties and improvements in enforcement in the region. She also introduced the students to the practical side of practice and discussed the work culture of Eastern Europe and her role as a liaison for PETOŠEVIĆ U.S. clients.

PETOŠEVIĆ Organizes Educational Seminar for Macedonian Customs Officials

On October 7, 2011, PETOŠEVIĆ Macedonia representatives, in cooperation with Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Japan Tobacco International (JTI), held an educational seminar for local customs officials on how to recognize counterfeit products.

]]>Approximately 50 people attended the seminar, which was held at the Customs Administration Office premises in Skopje. P&G and JTI brand managers held presentations on how to recognize counterfeit products bearing their marks.

Customs Administration Director Vanco Kargov also attended the seminar. He welcomed and expressed support for such initiatives, and he reiterated the Customs Administration’s position that there would be zero tolerance for counterfeit products.

Slobodan Petošević Elected Serbian Representative to EPI Council

Following the proposal of the Serbian IPO, PETOŠEVIĆ CEO Slobodan Petošević has been appointed as a Serbian representative to the Council of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office, also called the European Patent Institute (EPI).

]]>The EPI represents registered European Patent Attorneys and currently has 10,000 members. The EPI’s governing body is the Council, which is elected once every three years and which comprises registered European Patent Attorneys from all the European Patent Convention contracting states. All members of the Council work voluntarily for the Council.

Slobodan Petošević is one of only two Council representatives from Serbia. He plans on attending the next Council meeting, which will take place in Darmstadt, Germany, on November 5, 2011.

Aura Campeanu Lectures on Romania IP Enforcement

On June 8-10, 2011, PETOŠEVIĆ Romania Office Director Aura Campeanu participated in a workshop entitled “Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights” held in Sibiu, central Romania, during which she gave a presentation on the right holders’ role in IP rights enforcement in Romania.

]]>The workshop was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Romanian PTO, the Romanian Copyright Office, the District of Sibiu and the University of Sibiu, and was mainly attended by customs and police officials, prosecutors and judges, who, as participants concluded, need IP training the most.

On June 7, 2011, PETOŠEVIĆ Balkan Regional Office (BRO) representatives, in cooperation with Procter & Gamble (P&G), Nike, H&M and Nokia, held an educational seminar for the local customs and market inspectorate officials on how to recognize counterfeit products.

]]>Approximately 30 officials attended the presentations at the Customs Administration Office in Belgrade, Serbia. P&G and Nike brand managers held presentations on how to recognize counterfeit products bearing their marks, while the PETOŠEVIĆ BRO Director Mihajlo Zatezalo and BRO Associate Ivan Matić held presentations on behalf of H&M and Nokia.

P&G took the initiative in organizing the seminar and PETOŠEVIĆ hopes to organize similar events in the future.
